The desire to lose weight is what bonds many seemingly dissimilar people together in this world. In a time where people are becoming fatter, losing weight has become a global industry with all the diet fads, special foods, books and more. There are a few things you can do however to lose the weight without expending a lot of excess cash in order to do it. Here are five common sense tips for helping you lose weight:
1. Take your time when eating. That is simple enough right? However, most people seem to inhale their food and often end up eating more than they should. The reason is that it can take between 20-30 minutes for the stomach to send signals to the brain that it is full. Therefore, if you eat your meal in 10 minutes, you will eat more because your brain hasn't gotten the full message yet. Take you time and savor each bite. You will end up eating less.
2. Use a smaller plate. Sometimes, it is the plate you use when dishing up your meal. The larger the plate, the more likely you are going to fill it up. Choose a smaller plate and it will trick the eye and stomach that you are filling it with plenty of food. The upside is that you end up eating less. Just be sure to eat slowly as #1 above suggests!
3. Leave the serving dishes in the kitchen. Do not place the food serving dishes on your dining table. When you finish eating and you see that food sitting there, you are likely to get a second helping. Knowing you have to get up to get another helping is a deterrent to eating more.
4. Watch what you drink. Most people do not consider that the drinks they consume could be adding on the pounds. However, there are many liquids such as sodas and fruit drinks that are full of sugar which of course turns into pounds eventually. Drink unsweetened teas, water or diet drinks with artificial sweeteners instead to save those calories for something else.
5. Lose the distractions. When you are distracted at the dinner table by a television or even reading a book, you tend to eat more unknowingly. Banish the distractions and eat with full concentration or share a conversation with the family. By doing so, you will eat less and feel full.
There are many more ideas to help you reduce the number of calories you ingest each day. Just cutting back on your portions and drinking a glass of water before meals can definitely help you in your weight loss goals. Employ some of the tips above and reassess your situation in a few months. Chances are that you will find at least a little bit of a dip on the numbers of your scale.
